Richard: While working for Top Cow you drew "Battle of the Planets: Princess" how was that experience?
Wilson: It was quite a treat, I was unable to work on the Mark and Jason stories, and here I got to draw an entire miniseries on Princess. It was also a bit of a challenge because I had to carry the story entirely by lineart alone.
Richard: Do you like to use speed lines in your art?
Wilson: Yeah, I always try to put them in when I think it's needed.
Richard: What is "Shadowcast" about?
Wilson: It's LOST with teenagers. You have 10 kids marooned on a mysterious island in the middle of the Pacific running around trying to survive both natural and supernatural forces, and each other.
Richard: How did you end up drawing the LEGO Exo-force webcomic?
Wilson: It was interesting, LEGO originally already had a team working on it but due to delays they wanted a new art team. My agent asked me to try out but I was hesitant because I was already busy working on Shadowcast at that time.
I did a sample strip with my inker buddy Ernest and eventually ended up getting hired for the job.
Richard: Did you like working with Antony Johnston on "Wolverine: Prodigal Son"?
Wilson: Oh absolutely, I'm pretty much at home with his storytelling style and he also gives me opportunities to add a few touches of my own to the story art-wise.
Richard: Do you think the manga art style works well with the character of Wolverine?
Wilson: I think Logan is very much a manga character himself, his personality kinda reminds me of Manji from Blade of the Immortal.
Richard: How did you become associated with Glass House Graphics?
Wilson: I saw this ad in college during my thesis year and I ended up attending David Campiti's 2nd comic seminar in Manila back in early 2000. I didn't have any pinups or page samples back then, just my single illustrations I drew on scratch paper. David liked them so much and he signed me in.
Richard: What has GHG done for you?
Wilson: A lot- everything really. Thanks to them I was able to make a career out of my passion for drawing. I learned storytelling, got to work with some of the most talented people in the business, was finally able to afford heart surgery, a home for my parents, and now my own condo.
Richard: Would you like to draw a comic book about Spongebob Squarepants?
Wilson: Haha, why not? That'd be such a trip.
Richard: What are you currently working on?
Wilson: I'm currently working on the 2nd volume of Wolverine: Prodigal Son. The first volume should hit shelves by April.
Richard: What do you hope to achieve in life next?
Wilson: That's actually a good question. Beside from more manga projects, I think I need to save up for a car next, or should I go out and actually learn to drive first?
Richard: What comic books would you recommend besides your own?
Wilson: Wow, a lot. Definitely pick up All Hail Megatron, and the other Transformers books by IDW Publishing. As for manga books I'm not really thrilled with the current titles out there, I think I'm more of an old school guy because I'd recommend books like Battle Angel Alita(Gunnm) and Blade of the Immortal.
Richard: How can someone contact you?
Wilson: You can visit my deviantArt page at http://batangbatugan.deviantart.com or email me at wtortosa@yahoo.com
Richard: Any final words of wisdom?
Wilson: Just keep on drawing!
