Ruby Rocket

Richard: How did you get into cos-playing at conventions?

Ruby: I'm not sure exactly how I first saw it, but sometime in 1999 I learned about San Diego Comic Con and Anime Expo and started researching them and found that people were going dressed as their favorite characters. I've always loved dressing up as someone else, so that year I attended my first convention.

Richard: How does it feel to have all these fan boys looking at you?

Ruby: It's definitely a boost to the ego, but at the same time it's a bit stressful being under constant scrutiny. Every convention there are more and more beautiful girls parading around in costume, so the gawking is more diluted.

Richard: Do you get into the roles you dress up as?

Ruby: Yeah, definitely! I tend to get a bit surly when I'm dressed as The Pro. I do find I carry myself with more realness when in most other costumes.

Richard: Some of the costumes are pretty tight and revealing are you at all self conscious of that?

Ruby: Who wouldn't? If you're feeling uncomfortable, it shows. So even if I'm a bit self conscious of the costume, I suck it up and get into the right, confident mood. If you don't believe you look good, no one else will either.

Richard: Why do you refer to yourself as a comic book chick?

Ruby: Because I am? I've been collecting comic books since I was 8 years old and I now dress up like the characters. I think that makes me qualify as a comic book chick!

Richard: Do you make all your own costumes?

Ruby: I've made every costume save Phoenix. Some days I really hate my sewing machine.

Richard: Did you enjoy dressing up as Eve: Vampire Diva?

Ruby: Oh yeah! It was great working with the Arcana Comics guys!

Richard: How did it feel to win Marvel's first Annual Costume Contest?

Ruby: I was ecstatic and shocked. There were so many amazing costumes that were entered. I really though Iron Man had it in the bag.

Richard: Who are your favorite superheroes?

Ruby: Black Bolt, Deadpool, Phoenix, Batgirl, Black Adam

Richard: Who do you admire in the comic book field?

Ruby: There are so many people I am in total awe of. Just to name a few - Joseph Michael Linsner, Adam Hughes, Stuart Immonen, Michael Avon Oeming, Frank Cho. This list could be very, very long.

Richard: If you could have one super power what would it be and why?

Ruby: Telekinesis and Telepathy! Your powers are almost limitless with that combo! It'd be crazy interesting to get into someone's mind.

Richard: Which comics are you currently reading?

Ruby: Which ones am I not is the better question. My fiancé and I have over 50 titles on our pull list. If I were to just list the ones I read yesterday, that'd be The New Avengers, The Mighty Avengers, Teen Titans Year One, Hellcat, The Goon, The Young Avengers, Miss Marvel, and Birds of Prey.

Richard: How can someone contact you?

Ruby: There are three ways

Richard: Any final words of wisdom?

Ruby: If you decide you want to be Batman one day - just go with it!
