PAULA THOMAS - 'WHIP-SNAP'
Actress on Who Wants To Be A Superhero 2

by Richard Vasseur - (Posted: 9/22/2007)

Paula Thomas - 'Whip-Snap'

Richard: What did you have to do to get on the show?

Paula: Sign up on Sci-Fi website, and continue to look for audition dates. I checked everyday, so check everyday.

Richard: What was it like meeting Stan Lee?

Paula: Stan is very cool and funny, I like him.

Richard: How did you come up with the idea for Whipsnap?

Paula: I actually came up with Lady Reckoning originally, however; they(the production company) informed about 5 of us other Superheroes our name was already taken and we had to change them. So, based on my whip Stan came up with the name WhipSnap! I must confess: I didn't like it at first, but now I love the name WhipSnap

Richard: Did you have fun getting into character?

Paula: For me, I felt like I was already my character, I didn't think about it. I knew I wanted to stay true to who I was while on the show. So, what u watch is the real deal. No scripts, no direction, only Paula. I love being me! with and without the tears.

Richard: What are Whipsnap's actual powers?

Paula: I get my powers from mother earth. my main super power is, I turn foes to dust with my bare hands, that's why I must wear my special gloves to protect my hands at all times. Increase strength, I have heighten senses, smell, hearing, sight. My preferred mode of correction in any given distress call is talking out the situation before I use any powers, in hopes of rectifying the problem first. WhipSnap bases her actions via the crime. Not all crimes deserve the death sentence. I'm not here to judge only to help and teach first and foremost.

Richard: Personality wise in real life how close do you mirror Whipsnap?

Paula: Identical twins, when i look in the mirror that's who I am. no fake or flake, just Paula 24/7 very close.

Richard: Were there any emotional moments for you on the show?

Paula: The whole experience was emotional for me. Out of thousands and thousands hopefuls, I was chosen. My make over was the best, I love my costume, I felt transformed inside and out that moment in time.

Richard: What does your catch phrase mean "I'll whip you into unconsciousness and snap you back into reality"?

Paula: I really don't care for that catch phrase, but they kinda wanted me to make up something really quick. Mind you, I was still stuck on Lady Reckoning. I had several catch phrases for her. But what I mean by this particular phrase is..I'll hit them so hard with my whip that it would temporarily subdue them, and once I release the pressure of my whip, the individual will snap back into reality with a better sense of compassion for others and overall state of mind. Compassion is very important to me and with out it as u can see, the world is, has, and will continue to suffer.

I believe in Karma, and what u do to others will surely come back around to you. So, WhipSnap concept/theory is to nip it in the bud while giving them a chance to rectify themselves or I will turn them into dust.

Richard: Would you like to be on TV more?

Paula: Now that I'm off the show, I would love the opportunity to be in a action thriller movie with a message, especially for women. I didn't realize how many people I've touched and inspired. My fan mail, supporters showed me much love. The world needs a positive strong imagine now more so than ever before. My presence definitely got their attention. Now I'm pushing forward to making my dream come true. I love and admire Tamara Dobson and Grace Jones.

They are my role models. I grew up watching them both with such admiration and respect. I knew at the tender age of 8 what my purpose in life was. And that my friend is to tell my story and help those who are lost and scared to be who they are. I believe all my afflictions where necessary in order to share my story and touch and change as many lives as possible.

Being on the show and the support confirmed my heart desires. I'm reading over a few scripts currently. So, hopefully you and the rest of the world will eventually see me on t.v soon. If I could only get Hollywood to see African Americans as Superheroes, then I think I might have more than just a chance. It's tough out here, but I believe in God, so it will happen one day for me!

Richard: Was it a let down after the show going back to being a security officer?

Paula: No, I was never just a security guard, I have other skills under my whip. The show wanted me to pick that job title. I came to California on a mission, and that was to be on t.v and become the 1st African American action star, to grace the scene with my presences and my stories. If anything, I surpass a lot of people in the industry. I got exposure, by telling my story, by being who I am. I always wanted to be an actress with a purpose.

So, I prayed and worked on my character for several years and when the opportunity came knocking, I took it and ran with it. Now, I'm just working on getting me out there to the studios, network. I'm in demand, now I'm just seeking the right script/role.

Richard: Who are your heroes that you look up to?

Paula: I would say Defuser & Partheon

Richard: What do you do in your spare time?

Paula: I'm currently working on several projects involving global warming, since my powers come from mother earth. I'm definitely passionate about recycling and making a difference so we can all have a future for our children's, children. I don't want to ever just show a picture of what Hawaii used to look like on some freakin' post card. I want them to have the option in 2018 to go visit such places that are threaten with this epidemic.

I also, am writing a resolution bill for congress on environmental solutions. I love music, all kinds, I play the drums. I was actually the first girl to play for the BLUE MAN group about 2 yrs ago. I work out a few times a week and I take care of my little one..Spicy my dog.

Richard: What comic books did you read as a child and do you read now?

Paula: Not many, I couldn't afford them growing up. I currently read several comics now...love them. I'm still keeping my fingers cross regarding my comic book one day. I've been asked about it a lot lately. So, I'm working on getting my comic book out there. I know i have the readers to back me on this. the demand is high now I just need to supply them with a comic book and movies.

Richard: How can someone contact you?

Paula: I have myspace page for now. I don't give out my personal information. Unfortunately, I'm being stocked by a few people. However; myspace page is the way to go for now. I usually get emails that way I always respond to all my emails. I don't have a fan site like other superheroes. I love to stay connected with my fans and I do respond to all my emails. I will never get too big where I can't show my love. As u can see, I responded to your email. LOL! www.myspace.com/6feetall

Richard: Any advice for others wanting to get on the next "Who Wants To Be A Superhero"?

Paula: My only advice that I know is to stay true to yourself and think about what you would want the world to know about you. What's important to your heart, your message, your goal. It worked for me and stay true to yourself. Remember not everybody has to see your dream in order for it to come true.

Richard: Any last words of wisdom?

Paula: "The difference is " A Hero acts while others stand and watch!" Go for it..Just do it! stay hopeful, the glass of water is half full not empty.
